Admit it, you’ve probably made a joke about Milton Keynes’s roundabouts or its concrete cows. I have too. But here’s the thing: the location is fantastic for commuters. The campus is a five-minute walk from the train station. Five minutes. You can be in London Euston in about 35 minutes. That’s faster than getting across some London campuses.
And if you drive? Well, you’ll get very good at roundabouts. But seriously, the campus is near the main shopping centre, the Xscape leisure complex (hello, indoor skiing), and a dozen decent lunch spots. You won’t starve or get bored.
One downside? Parking is a nightmare. I’m not going to sugarcoat it. If you drive, budget extra time to find a space. Or better yet, take the train. You’ll thank me later.

The People: Diverse and Chilled
The student body here is incredibly mixed. You’ve got young students fresh from A-levels, mature students returning to study, and international students from all over. The atmosphere is welcoming, not cliquey. I overheard a group of students in the common room discussing a group project in three different accents. That’s the reality of modern Britain.
The staff are approachable, too. Academic advisors actually remember your name—or at least they do a good job pretending. One lecturer I spoke to said he makes it a rule to reply to emails within an hour. An hour. Try getting that at a big red-brick university.
