Legend has it that the Queen Mother visited in 1970. She reportedly said it looked “very modern.” That’s British royalty code for “I have no idea what I’m looking at.”
But students love it. It’s where you go to cram for exams, meet friends, or catch a nap in one of the weird pod-like study nooks. The nooks are literally shaped like eggs.
If you sit in one, you’ll feel like a cozy chick. That’s comfort science at its best.
The Secret Roof
Not many people know this, but the roof has a hidden garden. It’s a tiny, elevated space with gravel and shrubs. It’s only for staff, but students have been known to sneak up there.
From the roof, you can see the entire campus. You can also see the spire of the Richard III visitor centre. It’s a view of old England and new England colliding.
One student told me they practiced yoga up there at dawn. The building probably approved. It’s very flexible for a concrete structure.
