You might be thinking, "Why couldn’t they just leave the letters alone?" Great question! The idea was to make the top grades harder to get. A 9 is way harder to earn than an A was. It’s like the universe decided to make exams a tiny bit more stressful—just for fun.

But honestly? It’s not that scary once you get the hang of it. Teachers now say things like, "Aim for a 7," and you just nod like you know exactly what that means. Spoiler: you do now.

What About The Old Letters?

Are they gone forever? Not quite. Some subjects—like Art or Design & Technology—might still use letters or even pass/fail marks. But for the main subjects (English, Maths, Science), it’s all numbers, baby.

Imagine the confusion at family dinners: "I got a 6!" and your grandpa says, "Out of what, 10?" Just smile and say, "Out of 9, but it’s complicated, Grandpa." Then change the subject to cake.
