Del Boy’s three-wheeled Reliant Regal van is the automotive equivalent of a cardboard box on roller skates. It’s tiny, it’s orange, and it has the structural integrity of a biscuit. In one episode, the thing literally falls apart after a minor bump. A modern crash test dummy would survive that, but only if it was made of rubber and wearing a helmet. The Trotters drive that van like they’re in a Mad Max film, but with more polyester and less water. The real miracle isn’t that they never get hurt—it’s that they never spontaneously combust from sheer bad luck.

Then there’s the time Del and Rodney tried to fly a hang glider off a cliff. Yes, a hang glider. Made from a garden umbrella and some old tent poles. If that thing had caught a thermal updraft, they’d have been the first astronauts to reach orbit without a rocket. Instead, they just crashed into a bush and walked away. That’s not comedy—that’s a medical miracle. The NHS should study their bones for clues on how to make humans indestructible.

Hazchem and the World’s Worst Firework

Remember Hazchem? That’s the fake cleaning product Del tries to peddle, which is basically bleach mixed with napalm. In real life, that stuff would melt your sink, your floor, and your hopes. The episode where it explodes is pure gold—but also a vivid reminder that Only Fools taught us more about toxicology than any textbook ever could. “Don’t mix ammonia and chlorine,” the show screamed, while everyone laughed. “Or you’ll die in a yellow cloud of misery.”

And don’t even get me started on the nuclear bomb subplot. In the episode “The Russians Are Coming,” the entire Trotter clan accidentally triggers a military air-raid siren, believing World War III has started. They end up in a bunker, arguing about who gets the last corned beef sandwich. The joke is on the paranoia, but the real danger was that Del probably would have sold the launch codes to a man in a pub for a tenner.
