Tessa wasn’t just some random face they plucked from obscurity. Before she became Raquel, she was a serious stage actress, doing Shakespeare and all that fancy stuff. Imagine her going from “To be or not to be” to “Alright, Rodney?” —talk about a career curveball!

She joined the show in 1988, and honestly, she saved it from being just “the Del Boy show.” Suddenly, we had someone who could actually pronounce words properly. She was the straight-laced foil to the chaos, but with a killer sense of comic timing.

Why We Loved Raquel (and Tessa)

Let’s be honest: Raquel could have been a total snob. But Tessa played her with so much warmth and vulnerability. She made you root for a woman who chose a life with a van full of hooky gear and a boyfriend who dressed like a dodgy estate agent.

Remember the episode where she sings “Always” at the karaoke? That wasn’t just acting—Tessa has a genuinely beautiful voice. It was a moment where the show went from silly to heart-meltingly sweet. And then Del Boy ruins it by falling through the bar. Classic.
