Here’s a juicy one: the Reliant Regal van almost wasn’t yellow. It was supposed to be a different color entirely. But the director chose yellow because it looked ridiculous and that suited Del Boy perfectly. Imagine a blue one – the magic would be gone.

Another fun fact: David Jason (Del Boy) was actually not the first choice for the role. Several other actors were considered. Can you picture anyone else pulling off that leopard-print coat and dodgy gold chain? It’s unthinkable.

The show was a slow burner. The first episode only got 7.5 million viewers. That’s tiny by today’s standards. But the BBC saw the gold in the characters and kept it alive. Patience, as Del would say, is a virtue.

Why It’s Still So Fun to Talk About

Because it’s real. These aren’t slick superheroes. They’re chancers trying to make a quick quid. We all know a Del Boy – someone who talks a big game but lives on the edge of disaster.

The chemistry is instant. Nicholas Lyndhurst as Rodney is the perfect foil. He’s the exasperated, slightly smarter brother who can’t believe his life. Grandad just adds a layer of dry, lazy comedy that’s pure genius.

And that laugh track? It’s mostly real. The studio audience was genuinely howling. You can hear the joy in the room. It’s infectious, even 40 years later.
