How to Pick a Persimmon

How to Pick a Persimmonを実践するための専門的なアドバイスをまとめします。

Color is your first clue. You want a Fuyu that looks like a traffic light that’s stuck on “Go.” A deep, rich orange—almost glowing. If it’s pale yellow or greenish, it’s going to be bitter and hard as a rock. Leave that one for the squirrels.

Now, feel it. A perfect Fuyu should be firm, like a ripe avocado you’d slice for toast—not hard, but not squishy. Give it a gentle squeeze; if it yields just a little, it’s ready to eat like an apple. If it feels like a baseball, it needs a few days on the counter. (Side note: never put a Fuyu in the fridge until it’s fully ripe. They hate the cold.)

Check the calyx—that green leaf collar on top. It should be fresh and attached, not dry or crumbling. A crumbly calyx is nature’s way of saying, “This fruit has been around the block too long.”
