Even experienced collectors make errors. Here are the most common pitfalls.
Confusing the script logo with the block logo. The script logo is from the early 2000s. The block logo is from 2008 onward. They look similar at a glance, but the difference is clear once you know what to look for.
Ignoring the care label. The main tag is important, but the care label holds the RN number and country of origin. Never date a garment based on the main tag alone.
Assuming all 90s tags are the same. The 1994–2000 period had multiple tag variations. The original logo tag, the Performance tag, and the early script tag all appeared in the 90s. Do not lump them all together.
Over-relying on the date code. The date code is great when it is there. But it is not on every garment. Do not assume a garment is modern just because you cannot find a date code. It might simply not have one.
