Quarshie has one of those faces—kind, commanding, and instantly familiar—that pops up in the most unexpected places. Remember that fantastic medical drama Holby City? He played Ricky “Mac” MacIntyre for years, a surgeon with a heart of gold and a stubborn streak a mile wide. He brought such warmth and grit to that role that you’d find yourself cheering for him even when he made terrible life choices—which, let’s face it, is the mark of a truly great actor.

And it doesn’t stop there. He’s been in Highlander (yes, the one with the swords and the Kurgan), The Darling Buds of May, and even the brilliant British comedy The Comic Strip Presents. Seriously, the guy is a chameleon. One minute he’s a wise Jedi guardian, the next he’s a grumpy dad in a cozy sitcom. It’s like a game of “spot the excellence” every time you turn on the telly!

Why You Should Binge His TV Shows Right Now

If you need a dose of pure, heartfelt drama, look no further than Holby City. Mac’s storylines—from battling his own health scares to mentoring young doctors—are the kind of TV that makes you laugh, cry, and then immediately text a friend to say, “You HAVE to watch this.” But for a lighter fix, track down The Ambassador, where he played a British diplomat in Ghana. The culture clashes and witty one-liners are absolute gold.

Also, here’s a little secret: his guest spot on Doctor Who (in the episode “The Long Game”) is a masterclass in playing a villain with style. He chews the scenery with such relish that you almost root for the bad guy. Almost.
